Nuremberg Airport Spotting Guide

Our member Patrick is an unregular visitor to Nuremberg´s airport and would like to share 13 Spots of the Albrecht Duerer Airport with you, the 10th largest airport in Germany. In 2014 the airport handled 3,26 Million Passengers. NUE handles german airlines like Germanwings, Air Berlin, Lufthansa, Lufthansa Regional, Tuifly and SunExpress Germany. The Airport is served by the european network carriers Air France, KLM, Swiss and Turkish Airlines. In addition there are Charterflights of Air Via, Bulgarian Air Charter, Onur Air, Pegasus Airlines, Ryanair, Sunexpress, Vueling and Wizzair. The Airport ist also Served by TNT Airways operated by Cygnus Air, Farnair Europe, Jettime and Panair during the night. There are also sometimes US Army and Airforce etc. flights besides many Buisnessjets and some Resuce helicopters.

Spotting Information Ladder Sometime necessary with up to 3 steps
Car Not neccesary, but makes it easier. Most of the spots can be reached by public transport as there is a U-Bahn station at the airport
Restrooms In the Terminal availible.
Drinks/Food In the terminal and as shown on the Map
Hotels There is an Mövenpick Airport hotel directly next to the Airport.
Season The best months to travel are during summer as there is not that much rain.
Runway Usage 10/28 Depends on the wind direction

Spot #1 – Carpark P2
WHERE This spot is located on top of the Carpark P2 on the highest floor. Parking directly in the carpark is verry expensive as this is a buinesscarpark. Park your car as marked on the map.
WHAT This is a good spot for both runway directions. In the summer months there is often heat haze due to the distance.
TIME Best light conditions are from 08:00-16:00.
MISCELLANEOUS Restaurant/Supermarket inside the airport. Toilets in the first floor of the Carpark
FOCAL LENGTH 70-400mm
Spot #2 – Observation deck
WHERE Park your car as marked on the map and go insde the terminal and follow the “Besucherterassen” sign to the second level.
WHAT This spot is good for aircraft movements for both runway directions but it is behind glass.
TIME Best light conditions are from  08:00-16:00.
MISCELLANEOUS There are facilitys inside the terminal.

Spot #3 – Towerspot
WHERE Park your car as marked on the map next to the hangar and walk to the tower. Walk up to the fence on the grassstrip.
WHAT From this spot you can take all plane movements on both runway directions and all parked aircrafts. A 2-3 stepledder is good for spotting. Nightshots of parked aircrafts are possible here.
TIME Best light conditions are from 08:00-16:00

FOCAL LENGTH 24-400mm
Spot #4 – Runway 10 taxiway and touchdown morning
WHERE This spot is located at the crashgate at the Irrhainstraße. Park your car not directly at the crashgate but on the opposite side of the street on the grassstrip. From the terminal you can walk there, but by car you have to drive the marked route on the map!
WHAT From this spot you can take pictures of all Runway 10 movements and heavy 28 takeoffs. You need a 2-3 stepladder here.
TIME Best light conditions are from 08:00-16:00. On the Taxiway until 17:00.
MISCELLANEOUS No facilities here
FOCAL LENGTH 50-300mm
Spot #5 – 10 arrivals morning and lineup
WHERE This spot is located a bit further up the “Irrhainstraße”. Park your car at the side of the street and don’t block it.
WHAT You can catch all aircrafts arriving runway 10 and line up’s. You need a 2-3 Stepladder here
TIME Best light conditions are from 08:00-16:00 for arriving aircrafts and for lineup from 16:00-19:00

Spot #6 – 10 evening arrivals and line up
WHERE This spot is located a bit further up the “Irrhainstraße”. Park your car on the side of the street and don’t block it.
WHAT You can catch all aircrafts arriving runway 10 and line up’s
TIME Best light conditions are from sunrise-7:00 and 18:00-sunset during the summer
MISCELLANEOUS No facilities here

Spot #7 – 10 evening touchdown
WHERE Park your car at spot 6 and walk along the perimeter fence to the spot.
WHAT From this spot you can take all plane movements on runway 10 and 28 heavy take offs. Here you need a 2-3 stepledder.
TIME Best light conditions are from sunrise till 7:00 and 18:00 till sunset
MISCELLANEOUS No facilities here
FOCAL LENGTH 70-300mm
Spot #8 – Evening 28 arrivals and line up early morning
WHERE This spot is located at the side of the “Rathsbergstraße” where a small parking lot is situated. Walk along the perimeter fence untill you’re at the position you like. Best spots are behind the line up.
WHAT Just for parked Aircrafts parked near the tower. Here you need a 2-3 stepledder.
TIME Best light conditions are from sunrise-12:00 and Nightshots

Spot #9 – 28 morning line up
WHERE This spot is located as marked next to the “Rathsbergstraße” at the parkingspot.
WHAT For early morning and late evening arrivals on RWY 28 and early moring line ups. Here you need a 2-3 stepledder.
TIME Best light conditions are from sunrise-7:00 and 18:00-sunset for arrivals and Sunrise-10:00 for line ups.
MISCELLANEOUS No facilities here

Spot #10 – 28 taxiway and touchdown
WHERE This spot is located when you start from the terminal pass the Cargo Terminal and walk then along the fence until you have a clear view of the taxiway (tagged on the map). It takes you approximate 15 minutes. Better to use this spot only if it’s not wet as you walk through the forest on an unsealed way.
WHAT From this spot you can shoot the most RWY 28 movements. Here you need a 2-3 stepledder.
TIME Best light conditions are from 8:00-16:00
MISCELLANEOUS Facilities in the terminal
FOCAL LENGTH 18-300mm
Spot #11 – Almoshof Hill
WHERE For this spot start at the terminal, pass the tower and FAI Hangar until you finid a hill on the left side. With the car you have to use the marked route when you want to park next to the spot.
WHAT From this spot you can shoot the most RWY 10 movements and 28 heavy depatures. But there is often a lot of heathaze. Just really good for heavys.
TIME Best light conditions are from 8:00-16:00

Spot #12 – Rental Car’s Carpark
WHERE This spot is located on top of the Rental Car Parking Garage. There are steps on the side where you can go up.
WHAT From this spot you can shoot parked aircrafts near the tower and all runway 10 and 28 movements. But be careful don’t scratch any cars!
TIME Best light conditions are from sunrise-12:00 and nightshots
MISCELLANEOUS Facilitys in the terminal
FOCAL LENGTH 200-500mm
Spot #13 – LHT Hangar
WHERE This spot is located on the left side of the hangar.
WHAT From this spot you can take taxiing aircrafts on the apron. Spot through the crash Gate.
TIME Best light conditions are from 08:00-11:00

    what’s going on with the
    Nürnberg Flughafen google map? there is an error and it doesn’t show up on my computer or smartphones.
    please let me know. am thinking of spotting there this weekend.

      We had a problem with some maps, because Google changed the URL.
      Map working again now, shouldn’t be problems anymore!
