Our newest member, Ruud Bouwknegt from aviationinfo.nl, is a regular visitor of Eindhoven and would like to share his experience of the second biggest airport in the Netherlands with you.Located in the south of the Netherlands, near Eindhoven, is Eindhoven Airport. It is a mixed civil and military airport. With almost 3 Mio. Passengers in 2012, Eindhoven is the second bussiest airport of the Netherlands, after Amsterdam Schiphol. The main carriers serving Eindhoven are Transavia, Wizzair and Ryanair. Both Ryanair and Transavia have a base at Eindhoven. Most of the time there is also some businessjets on the platform and because of the paint shop you can see some rare aircraft/airlines. At the airbase, the transport squadron of the Royal Netherlands Air Force are based with KDC-10, C-130 and the G-IV.

Runway Usage  03/21 used in all directions, mainly 21 is in use.

Spot #1 – Spottersweg – 21 Arrivals
WHERE To reach this place from the terminal, you leave the terminal on your left side and follow the road. You will pass the JetNetherlands building and after several hunderd meters you will reach a bridge over the canal. Don’t cross the bridge, but turn left. Follow the road and on your left side you see the parkinglot.
WHAT This is the most populair spot. From this point you can see the entire airport. Facing the airport, the best place to stand is on the far left side of the parking (near the three with the garbage bin and benches). Aircraft landing on runway 21 will be visible very late due to the threes. Aircraft departing from runway 21 are also visible from here.
TIME Light conditions are prefect from sunrise till 3pm in the summer. After 3pm the sun will be on the other side of the runway.
MISCELLANEOUS The are some benches to relax and some trees for shadow.

Spot #2 – JetNetherlands
WHERE To get to this spot, you follow the description as mentioned at spot 1. From the terminal this spot is a couple of minutes walk. If you visit this spot by car, you can park your car at spot 1 and walk to spot 2.
WHAT This spot is located near the hangar and maintance area of JetNetherlands (former Solid Air). At some days there will bes ome aircraft outside and they are visible from here.
TIME You can visit this spot the whole day.
FOCAL LENGTH 18-200 mm
Spot #3 – Terminal
WHERE Spot 3 is located inside the terminal. When you enter the terminal you go to the upper floor. Cross the restaurant and you will see the terrace. Unfortunately you have to take photos through glass.
WHAT This spot is located inside the terminal and is good for platform shots. Aircraft taxiing to runway 21 can be shot from here, but aircraft taking of from runway 03 are way to high.
TIME The best time to visit this spot is in the morning. Around 15:00h the sun will be on the other side of the runway and you have the sun in front of you.
MISCELLANEOUS Because this spot is inside the terminal you have all the things you need. The restaurant is pretty expensive so it’s better tob ring your own food.
FOCAL LENGTH 18-300 mm
Spot #4 – Parking P3
WHERE It is located pretty close to the terminal. Leave the terminal on your right hand side (when you stand with your back to the security) and pass the busstation. Follow the pedestrain road and you will see parking P3.
WHAT Spot 4 is located on the east side of the terminal. Carpark P3 is the long term parking. Here you stand in front of the parked aircraft. Most of the time these are Wizz Air, Ryanair and Transavia, but also some business jets can be parked here.
TIME As of the most spots on this side of the airport, the best time to be here is from early morning till 15:00h.
MISCELLANEOUS A ladder is needed. Restrooms are in the terminal.
FOCAL LENGTH 18-200 mm
Spot #5 – Parking P4
WHERE Spot 5 is located not far from spot 4. So to reach this spot you follow the description as mentioned at spot 4 and you keep following the road. The road will turn left and here you will see the parkinglot P4 on you right.
WHAT Since a couple of years parking P4 has a parking garage with 4 floors. In the top floor you have some very nice views on the runway and both platform (militair and civil).
Warning!
It is not allowed to post any pictures of the military platform on the internet. Photos you take there are for personal use!
TIME For runway shots you can stay here until 15:00h. For platform shots, the best time is in the evening.
MISCELLANEOUS Restrooms are in the terminal.
FOCAL LENGTH 18-300 mm
Spot #6 – Runway 03 morning
WHERE This spot is located on the south side of the airport. To reach this spot from the terminal you will need a car. By foot it is almost impossible to reach. When you have a car you drive towards spot 1. You will keep following the road and you will pass spot 1. At the first T-crossing turn left en follow this road. Eventually you will reach a crossroad and turn left again. Follow this road and on the left side you will see the airport. On your way to this spot you will pass spot 7 and 8.
WHAT From this spot you can see the aircraft landing on runway 03. With good weatherconditions you can see the aircraft turn onto final. The terminal and platforms are not visible from here.
TIME The best time to visit this spot is from early morning till 15:00h. After 15:00h you can use spot 7.
MISCELLANEOUS Bring your own food and drinks. No restrooms at this spot.
FOCAL LENGTH 50-300 mm
Spot #7 – Runway 03 afternoon
WHERE This spot is located on the south side of the airport. To reach this spot from the terminal you will need a car. By foot it is almost impossible to reach. When you have a car you drive towards spot 1. You will keep following the road and you will pass spot 1. At the first T-crossing turn left en follow this road. Eventually you will reach a crossroad and turn left again. Follow this road and on the left side you will see the airport. Keep the airport on you left side and park you car along the road (at your own risk!).
WHAT From this spot you can see the aircraft landing on runway 03. With good weatherconditions you can see the aircraft turn onto final. The terminal and platforms are not visible from here.
TIME After 15:00h you can use this spot.
MISCELLANEOUS Bring your own food and drinks. No restrooms at this spot.
FOCAL LENGTH 50-300 mm
Spot #8 – Landsardseweg – Runway 21 arrival
WHERE This spot is located north-west of the airport. To reach this spot from the terminal you will need a car. When you have a car you drive towards spot 1. You will keep following the road and you will pass spot 1. At the first T-crossing turn left en follow this road. Park you car along the road (at your own risk!).
WHAT From this spot you can see the aircraft landing on runway 21. The terminal and platforms are not visible from here.
TIME After 17:00h you can use this spot.
MISCELLANEOUS Bring your own food and drinks. No restrooms at this spot.
FOCAL LENGTH 50-300 mm
Spot #9 – Parking P5
WHERE Parking P5 is located north of the civil platform. To get here you follow the description to spot 2. After passing spot 2 you will see the signs on your left side.
WHAT From this spot you are very close to the aircraft on the platform. Also aircraft landing on runway 21 can be seen from here.
TIME Early morning till 11:00.
MISCELLANEOUS A ladder is needed. Restrooms are in the terminal.
