Goerge Town’s Owen Roberts Intl. Airport (GCM/MWCR) is the major gateway to the Cayman Islands, connecting the world to the country and two smaller airfields. It is home to the local carrier Cayman Airways, but also sees some US carriers and general aviation movements handling 1,4 million passenger a year (2019). The airfield was constrcuted in 1952 and named after Owen Roberts in 1954, who had founded Carribean Intl. Airways and died in a plane crash 1953 just after the airfield had opened.

| General Info | |
| 08/26 | Mostly you will have 08 movements. |
| Spot #1 – Crewe Rd – 08/26 Movements | |
|---|---|
| WHERE | This spot can be found along Crewe Rd: there you will find a bus stop and an abandoned building on the other side of the road. You can either try to shoot thru the mesh here or may be able to climb the abandoned house to clear the fence. |
| WHAT | This spot is great for 08 backtracks turning on the turning pad, but you can also see 08 arrivals nicely. |
| TIME | In summer later morning till later afternoon; in winter all day. |
| MISC. | Be careful, once climbing the house! It may be unsafe and you can fall down. A donut shop is just a few meters to the east where you can find drinks and food. |
| FOCAL LENGTH | 50-250mm should cover everything |
Pictures taken here look like THIS.
| Spot #2 – Smith Rd – 08 Arrivals | |
|---|---|
| WHERE | You can park at the old cricket sports field or pickleball facility here and then walk to the roadside of Smith Rd here: you can spot from all over the place/roadside or the nearby field. |
| WHAT | 08 Arrivals can be seen nicely here. |
| TIME | In summer later morning till later afternoon; in winter all day. |
| MISC. | Nothing directly here, take care of the busy road just next to you. |
| FOCAL LENGTH | 50-200mm B38M = 100mm |
|
Spot #3 – Airport Park – 08/26 Movements + Ramp
|
|
|---|---|
| WHERE | This spot is called “Airport Park”: it is a sort of public playground with a parking area just along the fence from which front you can see onto the runway and parts of the ramp just east of the park. |
| WHAT | Runway 08/26 movements in front as well as the ramp next to you. |
| TIME | Only on early summer mornings or late summer evenings for the runway; in winter you will have backlit all day. The ramp has nice light in the afternoon/evening. |
| MISC. | Haze can be an issue if the day was hot. You have to shoot thru the mesh here. A few shops/restaurants can be found a few meters west. |
| FOCAL LENGTH | 50-200mm should cover everything. |
