Valencia Manises Airport Spotting Guide

The Airport of Valencia, also called Manises Airport (VLC / LEVC) is a Spanish airport managed by Aena. It is located 8 km west of Valencia, between the municipalities of Manises and Quart de Poblet. Its implementation has contributed to create an important business and tourism center, facilitating the economic development of the areas around it.

Traffic has increased in recent years. After closing the year 2013 with a decrease of passengers to 4 599 990 mio, 3.2% less than in 2012, when the 4.7 million users were reached, which already meant a fall of 4.6% compared to 2011. The maximum number of users was reached in 2007 (coinciding with the celebration of the Copa America): 5.9 million passengers. In 2016 it closed with 5.8 million passengers.

Hotels Cheap hotels are next to Manises. 200m of the airport there is a Holiday Inn and a Ibis Budget.
Season Most traffic at Valencia is in the Summer
Runway Usage  12/30 The use of 12 is very rare in winter. 30 is in use most time. In Summer, runway 12 is almost always in use.

Spot #1 – Terminal 1
WHERE This spot is located on the public side, inside Terminal 1 on the second floor. Use the stairs on the right of the terminal to the top. Turn right and head to the main room. You will see a window that overlooks the entire airport.
WHAT Its not the best place as you are behind glass. But its okay if you don’t have much time to visit the other spots. You will get the 12/30 arrivals at this place as well as some taxiway movements. The runway is in the distance so there will be a lot of heat distortion. There should be any aircrafts parked in front for photo.
TIME In the summer light is perfect from late noon until evening. Depends on the angle of the aircraft.
MISC. Restrooms and drinks&food are just next to you in the floor 1.
Spot #2 – 12 taxiway
WHERE It is located in a monticulo next to the industrial estate and a golf course. It can be reached easily. From the airport drive westwards and when you have passed the golf course turn left into the Poligon el Copmtat 3. Park your ca and climb up a small mound to shot over the fence. You can see the planes passing by.
WHAT You get taxiway N4 for the runway 12 departures and the arrivals on this runway. Some 30 arrivals are possible too if the use the ruwnay exit H7 in front of you.
TIME In the summer only from the moorning to until noon for the runway. Taxiway exit only during the evening.
MISC. There is a restaurant close to 300m.
FOCAL LENGTH A400m = 150mm, AB A320 = 220mm

Spot #3 – Collado –  Header runway 12
WHERE In to te header of the runway 12. Following the road that borders the airport if you are coming from spot #2.
WHAT Spectacular place where the planes fly about 30 meters high to the point of landing on track 12. Ideal place to live the excitement of seeing planes from very close. For side on shots move closer to spot #4 to get a better angle. You can also shot the line up for RWY12 departures if you climb up a mound to avoid the fence.
TIME From noon to dusk.
MISC. There is nothing close to this spot. So bring what you need with you.

Spot #4 – Collado – 12/30 departures
WHERE It is located on the opposite site of spot #2 next to Collado. Just continue on the road from spot #2 and #3 until the road make a sharp right turn (taxiway S4). There is a small mound where you can climb up to photograph over the fence.
WHAT You get arrivals and departures of the runway 12/30 and the taxiway S4 to the private jets apron and the hangars of Cessna, Air Nostrum and maritime Rescue.
TIME In the summer from noon till sunset. In Winter backlit the whole day. Taxiway only in the evening.
MISC. There is nothing close to this spot. So bring what you need with you.
FOCAL LENGTH A321 = 270mm, IL76 = 180mm

Spot #5 – Gas Station – 30 arrivals
WHERE There are many ways to get to the spot. Its located next to the gas station “Repsol” and a car dealer. Use Exit 347 if you are coming on the A3 heading to Valencia City. Otherwise you can easly walk from spot #6 if the sun has turned around. There is a pedestrian bridge that cross the A3. Park you car next to the car dealer.
WHAT Arrivals on RWY30 only.
TIME In the summer from noon till sunset. In Winter backlit the whole day.
MISC. At the gas station you can find all kinds of drinks and food.
FOCAL LENGTH CRJ = 280mm, 772 = 190mm
Spot #6 – Pedestrian Bridge – 30 arrivals
WHERE The spot is on the top of a newly build pedestrian bridge. Park your car in the Calle Manuel Vilar to get access on the bridge of walk from Spot #5.
WHAT You’ll see the planes land on runway 30. Also line up is possible in the morning if you have enough zoom (heat!).
TIME In the summer only from the moorning to until noon.
MISC. There is nothing close to this spot. So bring what you need with you. Some shops and restaurants are in the Av. de Madrid
FOCAL LENGTH E190 = 100mm, 737 on taxiway = 300mm
