Corsica Bastia & Ajaccio Airport Spotting

With four international airports the french mediterranean island Corsica can be a good spot to combine a nice spotting trip with relaxed holidays and some lazy days at the beach.
The main airports serving the island are the Bastia Poretta International Airport (BIA/LFKB) and the Ajaccio Napoleon Bonaparte International Airport (AJA/LFKJ) . Both airports dispatch about 1,000,000 passengers a year and are common destinations for several seasonal charter flights from several european cities.

The busiest day in the summer season is always the saturday, where flights from Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Scandinavia and the UK arrive. On other days, there will be more domestic traffic, operated by Air France, HOP!, Volotea and last but not least Air Corsica. Also there are a few scheduled cargo flights, which are all operated by ASL Airlines France and sometimes French Air Force is flying some Touch and Go’s during their training sessions as there is Solenzara Air Base nearby.

When spotting in Bastia, highlights can be:
Volotea 717 (Destination/Origin: Several french cities), Atlantic Airways A319 (Destination/Origin: CPH), Jetairfly/TUIfly Belgium E190 (Destination/Origin: BRU), Chalair ATR-42 (Destination/Origin: LIG, PGF), ASL Airlines 73F.

When spotting in Ajaccio, highlights can be:
Corsair 747 (Only some rare dates during summer season, Destination: ORY) Volotea 717 (Destination/Origin: Several french cites), Jetairfly/TUIfly Belgium E190 (Destination/Origin: BRU), Chalair ATR-42 (Destination/Origin: LIG, PGF), Travel Service B739 (Destination/Origin: Prague), ASL Airlines 73F.

Ajaccio Spot #1 – Taxiway A – Rwy 02/20 all action

If travelling with public transport, the Bus station of the Airport Terminal is 1 km away from the spot.
No ladder needed, you can just climb on the big rocks and take your pictures over the very low wire fence. For all the video-makers out there: You can also put your tripod on one of the rocks, they are big enough.
WHAT You can take pictures of all Runway 02 arrivals and all movements on Taxiway A, which includes line-ups and take-offs from Runway 02
TIME 90° angle shots on taxiing planes are possible from late afternoon to evening. Shots on the Runway are possible the whole day starting from 10:00am.
