Stockholm Skavasta Nyköping Airport – Spotting Guide
Stockholm Skavsta airport is located roughly 100 km southwest of Stockholm near Nyköping and serves as a major secondary hub for low cost carriers, charters and general aviation. The airport was originally built as a military airbase (F 11 Wing) and still maintains a varied traffic mix including commercial flights and special operations.
Low cost airlines like Wizz Air and Norwegian make up a large portion of the daily passenger movements alongside seasonal charter flights. Skavsta is also a main operational base for the Swedish Coast Guard, which operate their Bombardier Dash 8 Q-300 fleet from the airport daily. Even weekends are often no exception. Furthermore Saab AB uses Skavsta as a primary center for aircraft maintenance, special flight operations, and aerial firefighting support, therefor their Mitsubishi MU-2 and Air Tractors are based here. Even if they don´t fly, you will often have the chance to see them parked on the apron.
