Zvartnots International Airport (IATA: EVN, ICAO: UDYZ) is Armenia’s largest and busiest airport, located 15 km west of Yerevan. Opened in 1961, it has undergone significant modernization, including the addition of a new terminal in 2011. Its 3,850-meter runway accommodates a wide range of aircraft, from regional jets to large planes.
The airport is a hub for Armenian Airlines, FlyOne Armenia, Shirak Avia, and other regional carriers. It also hosts a variety of international airlines, including Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Air France, Aeroflot, Wizz Air, LOT Polish Airlines, and FlyDubai. Key destinations include major European cities like Paris, Frankfurt, Warsaw, and Vienna; Middle Eastern hubs such as Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Tel Aviv; and regional connections to Tbilisi, Moscow, and Istanbul. Seasonal charters also link Armenia to Mediterranean and vacation hotspots.
Highlights are Iran Air Cargo B747-200 and iranian/russian airlines.
Zvartnots operates flights to over 60 destinations with more than 34 airlines, making it a critical hub for international connectivity in the Caucasus region. Passenger traffic reached a record 5 million in 2023, reflecting its growing role in tourism and commerce.
The airport’s future plans include expanding capacity and further enhancing passenger experience to accommodate rising travel demand.

Terminal 2 | New one for all airlines |
Spotting Information | |
Ladder | Prohibited and not recommend |
Car/Public Transport | Ground transportation is well-developed, with express buses connecting the terminal to central Yerevan and taxis offering convenient transit. Otherwise, taxis are very cheap and recommended. Definitely a car needed to reach spot 1. |
Drinks/Food | Nothing nearby. Take enough water with you as it gets very hot in summer!! |
Hotels | There aren’t hotels for spotting. Good option is the nearby Port Plaza Hotel. |
Season | In Summer are more charter flights operated and better weather. But very hot!! Winter could get very cold!! So late spring or late summer is the best time. |
Security | Police can be everywhere. Be caution!!! If you don’t want to get in touch with the police, don’t go here! You need to take it seriously, especially due to conflict to Azerbaijan. Always take your ID with you and only go to spots mentioned here. Feel free to contact the local spotter Alexander via his IG channel. |
Runway Usage | |
09/27 | RWY 09 is mainly used for arrivals all the time around. Sometimes for departures aswell. RWY 27 is rarely used for arrivals only due to strong headwinds. Because of the mountains and the city in the background they want to avoid landings on 27. But departures are usual. |

Spot #1 – Field/House – 09 arrivals |
---|---|
WHERE | It is next to the road from Musaler to Arevashat which runs along the 09 approach. The road leads directly to the airport wall and the flight-in snare. After a 90-degree turn along the wall, there is a dirt path on the right side, where an abandoned house is visible (1A). It is better to stay inside the car but you can also enter the house for some shade. But it is dangerous as there are deep holes in there!
In the summer evenings stay on the small dirt path (1B), next to some watermelon fields. It is right on the opposite side of 1A. |
WHAT | RWY 09 arrivals only. Departures are mostly too high already. |
TIME | Summer: from 10:30am till 5pm at 1A and in the early morning and evening at 1B. Winter: all day from 1A |
MISC. | Nothing nearby. Take everything you need with you. Be aware of locals. DO NOT STAY visible next to the street! |
