Los Roques(SVRS/LRV) is undoubtedly one of the busiest airports in Venezuela. Located on the main island of the Los Roques archipelago, known as “Gran Roque”, it features a relatively short runway — perfectly suited for the general aviation traffic and regional aircraft that connect the archipelago.

The airport is estimated to receive around 20 aircraft per day, mainly private planes, though it also handles scheduled flights from Caracas (CCS), which is the primary destination served from Los Roques. Commercial flights are operated mostly by Jetstream 31/32s, Let L-410s, and Cessna C208s. Currently, the largest aircraft to operate at this airport is an ATR42, which Conviasa deploys during peak season to accommodate higher passenger demand on the Caracas–Los Roques route — one of the country’s top tourist destinations.

SPOTTER TIP!!: You can talk to the boat operators who ferry people to the beaches and offer them some money to take you closer to the southern side of the runway, or to move around more freely by water for better shooting opportunities.

Hotels	It is a highly popular tourist destination, filled with small hotels known as “posadas”. Everything is typically booked as all-inclusive packages covering flights, accommodation, meals, and transfers.
Season	As a tourist destination, it enjoys steady traffic year-round, and the busiest periods coincide with Venezuelan public holidays such as Easter Week and Carnival, when the airport sees its highest volume of movements.
Security	It is an entirely safe location, as it tends to attract very high-profile visitors thanks to its beaches. While shooting, especially near the pier close to the airport, be prepared to be approached at any time by airport security staff asking what you are doing and why — just be friendly and you will have no issues. Avoid photographing passengers as they disembark from aircraft. Be very careful about approaching the VVIP passenger area and VVIP hotel, as that is where you will genuinely run into trouble.

General Info	The most commonly used runway is 07, so runway changes should rarely be a concern.

	Spot #1 – Airport pier
WHERE	The airport has a pier allowing passengers to travel directly from the surrounding islands of the archipelago to the airport. From the far end of the pier, you will have an excellent view of the runway and its traffic.
WHAT	From this pier, you will see part of the eastern apron, backtrack operations to the threshold of runway 07, and landings on the same runway.
TIME	This spot works best between March and September, particularly late in the day, which also happens to be the busiest period as aircraft arrive to pick up passengers after their day at the beach.
MISC.	Anything you need can be found at the island’s shops and the various restaurants in the area.

	Spot #2 – Gran Roque beach
WHERE	The entire western stretch of the island is a beach used for mooring small boats. This beach serves as a more discreet alternative shooting spot in case you are asked to leave the airport pier.
WHAT	From here, you are limited to viewing landings on runway 07 only.
TIME	This spot works best between March and September, particularly late in the day.
MISC.	Anything you need can be found at the island’s shops and the various restaurants in the area.
